Decoratively Speaking!

Decorating Tip 1
Plan your nursery to be relevant beyond infancy. Your baby will soon be a toddler with his/her own unique personality and interests. Our Hopscotch and Boomerang colorways provide a flexible color palette that will welcome the addition of new colors and patterns, making it easy to accommodate your child’s ever changing interests without needing to re-decorate.

Decorating Tip 2
Remember to choose “kid friendly” furniture and accessories. Parents often get caught up in the excitement of having a baby and forget that soon their infant will be creeping, crawling, climbing and touching everything in sight. Consider wear-ability, wash-ability and flex-ability to ensure that their space is “hands on” not “hands off”.

Decorating Tip 3
Relax and have some fun with the space. The truth is, you are preparing a room for someone you don’t know yet. You may know if you are expecting a girl or a boy but beyond that, it’s all a daytime fantasy. Keep it flexible and your little one will soon take the lead.

Decoratively speaking, why do I want Backdrop Bedding for my nursery?

Simply put, it goes with everything! Our exclusive striped fabrics introduce an unusually broad color palette without dictating a specific look. Our palettes coordinate with a wide variety of furnishings, rugs and accessories and inspire endless color schemes. Your nursery is limited only by your imagination.

Backdrop Bedding is easy to use and easy to keep fresh over time by injecting additional patterns and colors.

From a developmental perspective I can understand that selecting a theme for my child’s room might be a mistake, but isn’t it easier to decorate by just purchasing things that match?

Themes are easy to create, which may be why so many parents choose that approach. Themes start off cute, but become stale more quickly than less specific looks. A child’s interests change on a dime and it will cost you much more than that to change the entire space every time your little one discovers a new love.

Our line offers a custom color palette that lends itself to the introduction of child-selected themes in the form of sheets and accessories, so you can indulge your child’s latest passion without completely redecorating their space.

Does that mean you don’t recommend the wall murals in a fantasy nursery?

I have seen many that I think are beautiful, but they do create a theme and are limiting in their look. When your child falls in love with Sponge Bob and Dora the Explorer, or Grandpa wins a big blue dog at the fair, they are unlikely to fit easily into the parameters of that nursery.

If you choose the painted mural, be prepared for your investment to be short-lived. If you simply must have one, consider creating it with sticker art so it easily changes with your child. You can have the fantasy nursery of your dreams without defining your child’s dreams.

Do I need a specific furniture style to go with your line?

Our bedding goes with any style of furniture you choose to compliment the look of your home. Our wide color palette coordinates well with a variety of stained wood furniture, as well as painted finishes.

Another plus - you can safely choose a solid head and foot on your crib - our wedges fit snuggly so they don’t have to tie on to be secured.

I want the developmental nursery, but I want my nursery to be distinctive and not look just like my neighbor’s.

Our color palette is uniquely suited to customization and supports a wide variety of decorative approaches – that is why we included over 30 colors in each of our stripes, providing endless opportunities to create your own unique look. I guarantee your nurseries will be as different as your babies.
